This Tutorial is for Setting up Software VLANs on Windows Machines, that do not support Hardware VLANs.

I advise to use this only on static Cable connections.

Check if Windows Pro is installed with Win + R and executing the command

winver

It should look say „Windows 10 Pro“ in the bottom paragraph.

This step can be skipped first. If Step 3 doesnt work, come back to this and check it.

Check if Virtualization is enabled in BIOS.

Shut the PC down completely. When starting mash Enter or F1

Enter BIOS, and look into the security Settings for „Intel Virtualization Technology“ and enable the setting.

Open „Turn Windows-Features off or on“ with Win + R, executing the command

Then scroll down to „Hyper-V“ and extend it. You need to install both the Hyper-V Management Tools and Hyper-V Platform. If the Hyper-V Platform is greyed out, go back to Step 2.

After installing, the PC will restart.

Open „Hyper-V Manager“.

Open the „Virtual Switch Manager“ in the Action Panel.

Create a new Virtual Switch with the Type „External“.

Name the Switch after your existing Network Adapter. For Type choose „External“ and select the static Network connection you want to enable VLANs for. Enable the chekmark to share the Network Adapter with the Management System (which is your Computer).

Next check „Enable VLAN identification for the Management OS“ and enter the VLAN you want to use in the Textfield.

Reboot the Computer to restart the Networking service.
